Q: What motivated you to apply to be a Local Joe?
A: I love being challenged and trying new things. This will definitely be a great experience and it will give me a competitive stimulant I am looking for. I want to use this training to prepare me for a full marathon that is on my bucket list!
Q: What fears do you have to train for your race?
A: It is not so much of a fear, but a challenge. I am more of an individual runner; I have never trained with a group so adjusting to this kind of training will be something different for me.
Q: What is your background with running? Other athletics?
A: I was always very active as a kid and it pretty much stayed like that. I started competing in sports when I was in 5th grade. I did track & field, basketball, volleyball, indoor hockey and handball. In high school, I joined a track & field sport club and competed in jumping events. In 2007, I came to Wichita State University on track & field scholarship and competed for four years in the triple jump and long jump. My trainings focused more on sprints than long distance runs. When I was done with track, I tried to stay active and I found the passion for longer runs where I can relax, clear my mind and listen to music.
Please welcome our newest group of Joes. These nine individuals have agreed to let us closely observe their fall training as they all strive to meet first-time goals, redemptive goals, or even bucket list goals. The Local Joes will begin training with GoRun Wichita's Start2Finish Training Program on Saturday, June 20th. Be sure to follow this unique group along their journey and watch as they work their way to the finish line on Sunday, October 11th.
